Ovaries are present in females on either side of the uterus and is responsible for production of the ovum {egg} and the female hormones. Cancer of the ovaries usually occurs in middle aged females.

What is HIPEC? Is it useful in ovarian cancer?
HIPEC stands for Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal chemotherapy, It is a procedure in which following surgery, heated chemotherapy is circulated in the abdomen using a special machine. It works on the premise that when chemotherapy is directly circulated in the abdomen it penetrates the peritoneum better.
There are a few cases which have shown that HIPEC improves survival in advanced ovarian cancer patients. The exact role is still uncertain and will have to be individually discussed with the patient.
